Thrilled to be at the Wine & Spirits 6th Annual Top of the List Tasting! I also attended this event last year — both times it was held at the Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street in Manhattan, a stunning and spacious venue. The participating wineries were organized by style of wine, from lightest to richest. We were provided with a booklet that contained a color-coded list of the wines within each style and a map of the entire room. It also included the wineries’ Twitter handles and hashtags, whenever applicable. Organization and attention to detail makes me so happy. My booze-loving friends and I hit up as many stations as we could, while making sure to sample all of the delicious bites along the way. I was excited that two of my favorite restaurants were there: Betony and Ristorante Morini. So much fun getting to chat with Eamon Rockey (General Manager at Betony). He’s the best! Loved Chef Bryce Shuman’s peas and buttermilk paired with a creative cocktail (white pepper soda & Chenin Blanc). Morini‘s sardines with lemon and capers were salty perfection. Other standout dishes included Shalom Japan‘s lemon-marinated scallop & vichyssoise and Fung Tu‘s roasted beets with century egg. As always, it was such a pleasure to sample the Flowers Winery Pinot Noir, other familiar faves like Schramsberg Blanc de Blanc, Grgich Hills Estate Fume Blanc, Roederer Estate Brut, and many more. Time flies when you’re having fun — and believe me, those two hours felt like two minutes. Right before everything shut down, we snagged the last chicken taco from Brooklyn Taco. Awesome.
