I’ve always loved hot dogs. Imagine my delight when I found out that there was a restaurant dedicated to them — and not just any plain old hot dogs. These puppies are DESTINATION DOGS! The man who started it all, Jimmy Cronk, is a cool guy with a fierce appetite for travel and encased meats. The DD menu showcases themed hot dogs from all over the United States and the world. Want a little taste of Hawaii? Try the “Poi Boy” comprised of wild boar sausage, pork belly, pineapple relish, and Dijon mustard. In the mood for something Scandinavian? Check out “Swede Dreams” made with Swedish meatball sausage, gravy, mashed potatoes, and lingonberry jam. There are many, many more to choose from and the names are all so darn clever! I wanted to try everything, but since that was not humanly possible, I settled on five dogs which I split in half with my beer buddy/mentor: 1) The Scarlet Bite (New Brunswick); 2) The Paul Bunyan (Minnesota); 3) The Miami Hound Machine (Florida); 4) The Guten Dog (Germany); and 5) El Borracho (Mexico). Each dog was overflowing with toppings and nestled in fluffy, buttery buns (except El Borracho, which was wrapped in a tortilla and deep fried). I powered through, but was only able finish about 2.3 of my 2.5 hot dogs. Not my best showing, I admit… but I’ll definitely be back for more. Big hugs and taco-flavored keeses to my wonderful sister, her awesome hubby, and her amazing friends for a great night! You guys are the best!
