Colicchio & Sons

It’s been a few years since I last dined at Colicchio & Sons (I tried it when it first opened in Jan 2010), and it was just as great — if not better — than I remembered it.  I’m truly one of Chef Tom Colicchio’s biggest fans. From start to finish, we savored every single bite — and believe me, there were A LOT of bites! The meal started out with warm, buttery parker house rolls that are some of the best I’ve had, rivaled only by Peels in the East Village. We sampled six different amuse bouches and then the party really got started. I am obsessed with Chef Tom’s hamachi (he has an amazing hamachi dish at Craft that I order every time I go), and I totally loved the C&S version with creme fraiche, caviar, and beets — a delightful amalgamation of textures and flavors. The pastas were fantastic, as always, and so were our entrees. We couldn’t decide what to try, so we ordered pretty much everything: braised beef cheeks, roasted & braised Heritage pork, roasted duck, AND roasted Amish chicken. Loved it all! I’m also crazy about Chef Tom’s doughnuts, so we had to try the coconut cream ones, which were obviously fantastic. Just when we thought we were done, we were surprised with a lovely dessert wine and a special dessert created by pastry chef, Stephen Collucci: vanilla bean creme caramel w/ Kenyan kumquats, Mandarin oranges, fried phyllo dough, and chocolate lavender sorbet — incredibly creative and delicious! A huge thank you to Thanh, our wonderful server, and to Jackie for the awesome treats! We had an incredible dinner and can’t wait until the next one. :)
