Wine & Spirits: Top of the List Tasting

I was so excited about attending the Wine & Spirits Magazine 5th Annual Top of the List event, a tasting and benefit for the NY/NJ Baykeeper (for more information, please visit It was an incredible line up of over 100 wineries, as well as “New and Notable Restaurants” and artisan purveyors. Held¬†at the Metropolitan Pavilion on West 18th Street in Manhattan, a stunning and spacious venue, the wine stations were organized by style, from lightest to richest. We were provided with a booklet that contained a color-coded list of the wines within each style and a map of the entire room. So organized! For two hours, I went from station to station, sampling delicious wines and tasty bites. I felt like a kid in a candy store! My favorite wines were the Crisp Whites and Pinot Noirs — and it was especially exciting for me to find my very favorite Pinot Noir from Flowers Winery in Sonoma! There was a great selection of small bites and desserts that complemented the wines nicely. I couldn’t get enough of the polenta & pork meatball (L’Apicio), asparagus custard with crawfish & onions (Maysville), Heritage pork belly with herb salad & ramp mayonnaise (Corner Street Grocers), and the pizza patate (Sullivan Street Bakery). I also had one of the best desserts of my life: warm sticky toffee trifle by Butter & Scotch — it was light, airy, sweet, sticky, butterscotchy, and just amazing. I had a fantastic time at Top of the List and can’t wait to return next year!
