Two of my dear friends took me out for a fabulous birthday dinner at Sen NYC. We started out with drinks at the bar — a tasty Lychee Martini and a glass of bubbly for me. Our bartender, Derek, was awesome and super knowledgeable about beer and whiskey. For dinner we ordered a bunch of dishes, including hamachi and kanpachi sashimi (two of my faves), hamachi tartare (can you tell that I’m obsessed with hamachi?), vegetable tempura (loved that the veggies were cut super thin), Japanese sea bass with crispy puffed rice (it melted in our mouths like butter), and two rice pots — Chahan (garlic fried rice and a soft boiled egg) and Shoyu Truffle Butter (assorted mushrooms drizzled with truffle butter) — AMAZING! I thoroughly enjoyed all of the food, and cannot wait to head back to Sen after Lent so that I can feast on all of the meaty dishes that I couldn’t order this time around: wagyu croquettes, kurabota pork belly skewers, wagyu rib-eye steak… I’m counting down the days!
